Job Description

Help Young People with SEN Thrive in the Workplace This is a truly unique opportunity to support young people with learning disabilities and autism as they transition from education into the world of work. You’ll be working with employers who are fully committed to making this journey a success, providing real opportunities for learners who may have struggled in mainstream education but are ready to thrive in a different environment. This charity’s approach blends job coaching with tailored classroom learning, creating a meaningful pathway for 16–24-year-olds with SEN support needs to build confidence, gain qualifications, and succeed in work. What to Expect You’ll receive excellent support from day one. For the first four months, you’ll shadow and support an experienced tutor on site. You’ll then start with your own cohort of learners in September. Location: 4 days a week on site in Sutton Coldfield, with 1 day working from home or at the head office in Birmingham for planning. Cohort: You’ll support a group of 6 learners. Role Split: A mix of job coaching and tutoring.Job Coaching You’ll support learners directly in their work placements by: Helping them understand and perform job tasks. Liaising with employers around reasonable adjustments. Developing key work-based skills like communication and time management.Classroom Delivery You’ll lead 1.5 hours of classroom-based learning each day, including: Embedded functional skills in Maths and English. Work-readiness content tailored to feedback from job coaching. What You Need You must have a full driving licence and be flexible,  the balance of teaching and job coaching may vary depending on the employer programmes each academic year. The model will always follow the DFN Project Search supported internship approach. To apply, you’ll need either: A Level 5 teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, DTLLS etc.) and a passion for supporting SEN learners in real-life settings. Or a Level 3 teaching qualification (e.g. AET Level 3 / PTLLS) with solid teaching experience, ideally involving functional skills. After 6 months, the charity will fund your Level 5 qualification. How to Apply Please apply via this advert — we aim to respond to everyone. If you haven’t heard back within 72 hours, please use the “Send Us a Message” form on the Contact Us page of the Red 5 People website, and a real person will get back to you.
