Job Description

Role Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with students with a range of additional needs, including but not limited to learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and autism. This role involves supporting 1:1 but also assisting with personal care tasks to ensure they have the independence and confidence to thrive both in and outside of the classroom. Key Responsibilities: * Support students on a 1:1 or small group basis, tailoring approaches to meet individual needs. * Assist students with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, dressing, and mobility support as required. * Work with the classroom teacher to implement specific learning plans and strategies to enhance student engagement and development. * Encourage students’ social interaction and independence within the school environment. * Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents/carers. * Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students at all times, following school policies and safeguarding protocols. * Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and builds confidence. Essential Requirements: * Experience working with children with SEN, either in a school or care setting, along with personal care * Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong relationships with students. * A proactive and flexible approach to work, with a strong commitment to student well-being and development. * Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. * A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. * A positive attitude and a willingness to support students in all areas of their school day, including personal care. Desirable Qualifications: * A qualification in Childcare, Education, or Special Educational Needs (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification). * First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training). * Epilepsy Trained (or willingness to undertake training). * Manual Handling (or willingness to undertake training). * Medication Administration Qualification * Experience in supporting students with specific needs (e.g., Cerebral Palsy, Dystonia, Epilepsy, Tachycardia, Neutropenia, Neuropathic bladder, Anxiety, GORD, Lymphoedema, Arachnoiditis evident on MRI, Feeding and swallowing difficulties requiring nasogastric feeding).
