Job Description

Job Title: Supervising Social Worker – Children’s Placement Service (Fostering, Support, and Development) Location: Guildhall Building, Shrewsbury, Shropshire Council SY2 6ND Rate: £33.30 per hour Hybrid Working: Flexible, with access to office space at the Guildhall and the ability to work from home About the Role: Shropshire Council is seeking a skilled and passionate Supervising Social Worker to join our Children’s Placement Service (Fostering, Support, and Development) team. This vital role will allow you to work directly with foster carers to ensure they are supported, equipped, and confident in providing the best possible care for children and young people in Shropshire. You will play a key role in the supervision, support, and development of foster carers, ensuring compliance with fostering regulations and national standards. In this role, you will work alongside a supportive and dedicated team, applying your expertise in trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches. You will be responsible for supervising foster carers, carrying out annual reviews, completing viability assessments, and ensuring all foster care records and compliance are accurately maintained. Key Responsibilities: * Supervision & Support: Provide regular supervision to foster carers, ensuring key areas of their role are discussed, recorded, and appropriately challenged when necessary. * Compliance & Records: Ensure foster carers remain compliant with fostering regulations and NMS standards, updating records on the Local Children’s System (LCS) as required. * Trauma-Informed Practice: Apply a trauma-informed, therapeutic approach in supporting foster carers, helping them navigate the challenges of fostering children with complex needs. * Case Load Management: Manage a caseload of foster carers, carrying out annual reviews and, when required, presenting these reviews to the fostering panel. * Team Collaboration: Attend and actively participate in team meetings, offering support to colleagues as needed. * Duty Rota & Viability Assessments: Participate in a duty rota, offering support to foster carers, and completing viability assessments as required (twice per month). * Hybrid Working: Work flexibly, with the ability to work remotely from home, but with access to office space at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury for team meetings and other in-person tasks. Qualifications & Skills: * Social Work Qualification: Must be a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England. * Fostering Experience: Experience working in fostering services, with a strong understanding of fostering regulations and NMS standards. * Trauma-Informed Approach: Ability to support foster carers using a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to ensure the best outcomes for children. * Case Management: Proven ability to manage a caseload, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines. * Team Player: Collaborative, with the ability to work effectively within a team and provide support to colleagues as needed. * Flexibility: Willingness to work a hybrid model, with the ability to work from home and attend the office when necessary.
