About the Role:
We are looking for a passionate and committed Teacher of English to join our thriving secondary school in Chester. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-performing English department and make a real impact on students’ learning and development across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential for Key Stage 5.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and challenging English lessons that inspire a love of reading, writing, and communication.
Teach across a range of abilities and age groups, tailoring instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
Monitor and assess student progress, providing clear and actionable feedback to help pupils achieve their full potential.
Support the development of schemes of work and contribute to curriculum planning within the department.
Create a positive, supportive classroom culture that fosters respect, creativity, and academic curiosity.
Participate in whole-school initiatives, parent evenings, and extracurricular activities, including literacy events and clubs.
Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management in line with school policies.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
A degree in English, English Literature, or a closely related subject.
A strong understanding of the English national curriculum, including GCSE requirements.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Desirable:
Experience teaching A-Level English Language or Literature.
Familiarity with key exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel, or OCR.
A proven track record of improving student outcomes.
A passion for promoting literacy and reading for pleasure across the school.
