S&D Trade Recruitment is supporting our client, who works on high-profile projects within the Marine, Themed Attractions, and High-End Fit-Out sectors. We have an exciting new opportunity for a Technical Lead Designer with a proven track record in leading design teams and supporting the Design Manager in all stages of project delivery, from concept through to completion.
This is a fantastic chance to join a forward-thinking organisation where you will play a key role in overseeing multiple projects, coordinating detailed production drawings, managing design resources, and driving a culture of continuous improvement across the team. Based at our client’s head office in Portadown, this position offers a competitive salary of £45,000 - £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience) and working hours of Monday to Thursday, 08:30 – 17:00, and Friday, 08:30 – 14:30. A Driving licence is required as there will be travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings
Technical Lead Designer Key Responsibilities:
* Provide clear leadership and direction to the design team, ensuring the delivery of detailed production drawings that meet technical requirements, client specifications, and contractual obligations.
* Understand and communicate project requirements, including client briefs, technical details, and design expectations.
* Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders, including clients, Project Managers, the production team, and site installation teams.
* Plan and allocate design resources effectively, ensuring optimal team performance and successful programme delivery.
* Drive and manage the design programme for multiple projects, aligning with overall project milestones and deadlines.
* Coordinate the entire design process, ensuring timely delivery of client sign-off drawings and production-ready documentation.
* Support the growth and development of the design team, identifying training needs and fostering a mindset of continuous improvement.
* Organise and lead design coordination and progress meetings, ensuring alignment between the design team, production, and project management.
* Oversee the document control process, working closely with the Document Controller to ensure accuracy and organisation.
Technical Lead Designer Requirements:
* Required is a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing people within a design environment, preferably within the marine fit-out or related sectors.
* A proactive and enthusiastic team player who listens, engages, and motivates, while confidently making decisions when needed.
* Strong leadership abilities with a collaborative, “can-do” approach.
* Effective delegation, problem solving, ability to build relationships.
* Ability to meet deadlines.
* A passion for learning, improving, and sharing knowledge with the wider team.
* Strong understanding of both design and manufacturing processes, and the interface between them.
* Excellent collaborative planning and organisational skills.
* Must have In-depth knowledge of 3D design (SolidWorks) and BIM, with a drive to implement improvements.
* Strong communication skills, both at a personal interaction level and in formal reporting.
* Driving licence is required as there will be travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings.
