Job Description

Town Planner Location: Chilton Business Centre, Chilton, Nr Thame, HP18 9LS About the Role: We are seeking a motivated and detail-orientated Town Planner to join our Planning and Architectural Practice, with longer term potential to progress in the Partnership. Our office is set in a fantastic countryside location in converted farm buildings, with plenty of parking. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on and managing a wide variety of planning applications and development projects in accordance with local and national planning policies. This is an excellent opportunity for a competent planning professional to take the next step in their career. General Duties and Key Responsibilities Within this role you will:- · be able to thrive within a small multi-disciplinary Practice, and be a confident verbal communicator. · be the first point of contact for Clients requiring planning advice, in addition to dealing with new enquiries. · provide expert advice on a wide variety of planning and development proposals. · explain complex planning issues in layman’s terms to Clients who may have limited or no understanding of the complexities of the UK planning system. · work independently and be resourceful in identifying solutions to issues that may be unfamiliar. · be familiar with listed building/conservation area applications; this will involve liaising with our Heritage Consultant · undertake desktop assessments, and carry out site visits. · prepare Design and Access Statements, Planning Statements, Appeal Statements, Statements of Common Ground, Costs Applications, Statutory Declarations and planning and appeal forms. · Identify requirements and obtain quotations for consultant reports or surveys where necessary, and also assess draft reports to confirm their acceptability and resolve any further action. · work hand in hand with other professionals to secure solutions to complex problems, and competing priorities. · attend Planning Committees, Public Meetings, Appeal Hearings/Inquiries and Local Plan Examinations, both independently and alongside our Planning Barrister. · negotiate planning conditions, S106 agreements and enforcement issues with Local Authorities. · ensure you keep up to date with any relevant changes in Local and National planning policy or legislation. · keep accurate time sheets where fees are agreed on a time related basis. Requirements: · Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, or demonstrate willingness to actively work towards this accreditation (essential) · Strong understanding of UK planning legislation and policy (essential) · Excellent communication, negotiation, and written communication skills (essential) · Proven ability of handling multiple projects, meeting deadlines and managing Client expectations (essential) · Proficient in using office software including Microsoft Office and Gmail (essential) · Proficient with all planning tools including Local Authority Planning Websites and interactive Planning Maps (desirable) · A valid UK driving license and own vehicle, given the remote location of the office and the need to undertake site visits (essential) · Knowledge of periphery planning legislation such as CIL legislation and Advertisement Regulations (desirable) · Experience with Footpath Diversions and the Judicial Review process (desirable) · Familiar with use of Apple iMacs (desirable, but not essential) Benefits: · Competitive salary · Flexible working arrangements · Professional development opportunities · Pension scheme · Generous annual leave entitlement after qualifying period · Generous car mileage compensation How to Apply: To apply, please submit your CV and a covering letter by email, outlining your suitability for the role.
