We have a brand new opportunity for a Transport Planner in the Ampthill area. About the Role As a professional Transport Planner you will have significant experience of working in the transport sector, being a part of a planning team and managing your own workload. Key Responsibilities * Coordinating role within depot planning function covering all movements associated with customer deliveries, collections, inbound, inter-depot, site moves, events, exchanges and sales using company planning systems. * Producing cost effective and accurate route scheduling to meet customer requirements, ensuring that all off-hired equipment is returned within company targets * Following the process and performance framework for the Transport & Logistics Department to ensure the Company maximises efficiencies and revenue streams and minimises costs. * Communication with customer prior to scheduling a vehicle movement to site to confirm access, date and reason for visit. * Tracking vehicle location to keep updated on status. Ensuring all routes are kept on schedule and informing all stakeholders of any incurred changes or delays. * Effective communication of failed, diverted and aborted journeys to minimise cost and maximise recovery. * Ensuring the efficient and accurate flow of relevant delivery/collection documentation. * Ensure that drivers comply with all relevant Road Transport legislation, including the correct and timely use of tachographs and internal reporting including the 48-hour working week systems in place. * Effective management of 3rd Party instructions, purchase orders, paperwork and any associated queries. * Daily debrief of driver activities with drivers, depots and hauliers to ensure effective communication. * Coordinating and communicating with Transport, Operations & Vehicle Maintenance Providers to ensure vehicles are maintained within the legislative guidelines to satisfy the requirements of the Operator’s Licence, company policy and procedures * Coordinating and communicating with depot operations to ensure vehicles are maintained within the legislative guidelines to satisfy the requirements of the Operator’s Licence, company policy and procedures. * Identifying and communicating resource issues through appropriate escalations. * Tracking vehicle location to keep updated on status. Ensuring all routes are kept on schedule and informing all stakeholders of any incurred changes or delays. * Ensure that drivers comply with all relevant Road Transport legislation, including the correct and timely use of tachographs and internal reporting including the 48-hour working week systems in place. * Assessing commercial viability of requests challenging decisions based on optimised sourcing, cost vs revenue and service levels. Utilising third party allocation where required. * Working closely with Central Desk department as required. * Identifying trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements. * Liaising with the Lead Auditor to ensure the Company’s Quality Policy and all Company procedures are being complied with. Cooperating in procedural audits and implementing any corrective actions raised as a result of those audits. * Maintaining and investing time in relevant qualifications and training for Continued Professional Development. Eg CPC. Experience * Strong commercial awareness and proficiency in TMS (Transport Management Systems) * Previous Transport Planning role experience * Experience supervising drivers and 3rd party haulage * Knowledge of Driver Hours, Tacho and WTD regulations * Understand Operator Licence obligations and ensure that these are met * CPC desirable Skills * Excellent Communication Skills * Can do, positive attitude and initiative to revisit plan according to business demand
