Welding Engineer - IWE / EWE
Yorkshire + Occasional Travel | Up to £75K + Benefits + Discretionary bonus
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Welding Engineer to join one of the UK’s leading businesses in their space as they continue to expand and invest in their capabilities. They have an extremely strong order book.
This is a brand-new role for the business that you can make your own to ensure full compliance with key industry and project standards. This Welding Engineer role is a pivotal position where you will become the business’s subject matter expert on welding.
As a Welding Engineer you’ll be responsible for driving and maintaining welding quality and compliance across multiple sites, providing authority and advice on all welding matters, and supporting the site-based RWCs. Your work will ensure best practice, consistency, and adherence to key standards.
The role will be based primarily in South Yorkshire across two close sites with occasional visits to a site in another region of the UK.
Key Responsibilities as a Welding Engineer
* Act as the business’s technical authority for all welding-related matters and decisions.
* Lead and maintain welding compliance across all company sites.
* Develop, review and manage welding procedures and techniques.
* Ensure personnel are fully qualified and maintain welder qualifications to meet standards.
* Oversee and support site-based Responsible Welding Coordinators to ensure best practices.
* Provide technical support and advice on welding methods, specifications, and concessions.
* Manage and monitor welding processes, including MMA, MAG and Submerged Arc Welding.
* Liaise with internal teams, auditors and customers to demonstrate and maintain compliance.
* Drive consistency of welding activities across all operations.
* Lead root cause investigations for weld defects, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
* Evaluate and introduce new welding technologies and techniques where beneficial.
* Collaborate closely with the Quality Manager, Production Directors and wider technical teams.
Candidate Requirements
* Qualified to IWE/EWE level (essential)
* Proven experience in welding engineering, standards compliance and inspection methods.
* Deep technical knowledge of welding processes, including MMA, MAG and Submerged Arc Welding.
* Ability to influence stakeholders, resolve technical challenges, and push back when necessary.
* Excellent communication skills with a collaborative and pragmatic leadership approach.
* Gravitas and credibility to work at all levels of the business.
* Willingness to travel occasionally to other UK sites (including overnight stays as required).
