Job Description

Learning Support Assistant - Reception (Full-Time) | £17-20 per hour 32.5 hours per week | Term-time only | Supporting EYFS pupil with ASD | Based in Horley Do you have the patience, empathy, and experience to make a lasting difference in a child's early learning journey? We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide full-time, 1:1 support for a 4-year-old child in Reception who has autism and significant challenges with expressive/receptive language. The role involves supporting learning through play, promoting communication and social development, and helping the child engage positively within the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support a young learner who benefits most from self-directed play and gentle encouragement, while gradually developing tolerance for structured activities. What You'll Be Doing Providing consistent 1:1 support within the classroom (32.5 hours per week, term-time only). Supporting progress across the EYFS curriculum, with a focus on learning through play. Encouraging social interaction, communication, and emotional development. Managing challenging behaviour calmly and effectively. Assisting with personal care needs, including toileting. Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals. Keeping accurate records of progress and adapting support strategies where needed. What We're Looking For Experienced Learning Support Assistant, ideally with knowledge of EYFS and SEN. Understanding of ASD and how to support children working below age-related expectations. Skills in behaviour management and fostering emotional resilience. Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) experience or training is highly desirable. A patient, creative, and flexible approach, with a focus on building trust and engagement.
