Specialist Teaching Assistant – Primary School
Location: Colchester, Essex
Start Date: ASAP or January 2026

Vision for Education is seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Colchester. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pupils who need extra support to succeed — both academically and emotionally.
About the Role
As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will:
Work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Provide 1:1 or small group support, focusing on areas such as social communication, emotional regulation, literacy, or numeracy.
Help create and implement individual learning plans (IEPs) and monitor progress closely.
Support inclusion and engagement within the classroom and wider school community.
Build strong, trusting relationships with children to encourage confidence and independence.
This role would suit someone with previous experience in SEN, learning support, or behaviour mentoring, who has a calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
Passionate about working with children and making a positive impact.
Experienced in supporting pupils with additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language difficulties.
Able to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
Patient, empathetic, and adaptable to different learning styles.
Ideally holds a relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (although experience will also be considered).
