Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support)
Location: St Leonards
Salary: £90 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term (Part-time roles also available)
Are you a compassionate and proactive individual with experience supporting children with additional needs?
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil in St Leonards, East Sussex. This role is ideal for someone confident in working closely with children with autism and sensory needs and familiar with Makaton and PECS communication systems.
About the Role:
You’ll be supporting a child with special educational needs, focusing on creating a calm, engaging and inclusive learning experience. Your role will include managing sensory needs, facilitating communication, and promoting positive social interaction.
Even if you don’t have experience with Makaton or PECS, we still encourage you to apply – training and guidance can be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with autism and sensory processing difficulties
• Use Makaton and PECS to aid communication (training or familiarity preferred)
• Assist the class teacher with adapting resources and lessons
• Help regulate behaviour through consistent strategies and emotional support
• Encourage independence and build confidence in and out of the classroom
• Maintain regular feedback with the SENCO and teaching staff
Job Requirements:
• Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism
• Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, or similar communication tools is desirable
• Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach
• Clear communication and a collaborative mindset
• Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one)
