About the Role:
We are seeking a patient, compassionate and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and welcoming team at a mainstream primary school located in the HG3 area. This rewarding role will involve providing individualised support to a non-verbal child in Reception, enabling them to access learning and thrive in a nurturing school environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to implement tailored support strategies, promote communication and independence, and help create an inclusive setting where all children feel valued and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide day-to-day 1:1 support for a non-verbal child in Reception
· Assist with classroom activities, personal care, and social integration
· Use alternative communication strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual timetables)
· Support the implementation of EHCP targets and behaviour support plans
· Work collaboratively with staff and external professionals to support the childs development
· Maintain accurate records and contribute to regular reviews of progress
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
· Experience working with children with SEN, ideally in an EYFS or KS1 setting
· A good understanding of autism and non-verbal communication methods
· A calm, nurturing approach and a high level of emotional resilience
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills
· A willingness to learn and adapt to the individual needs of the child
Desirable:
· Training in Makaton, PECS, or similar communication systems
· Experience working with children with ASD or non-verbal needs
· A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning)

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
· Hold Right to Work in the UK
· Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
· Provide two professional child related references that cover the last two years
