A Kent-based Local Authority is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Environmental Health Officer / Food Safety Officer to undertake approximately 80 Category C and D Food Hygiene Inspections by the end of March 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a fully competent Food Safety professional looking for flexible, project-based work - ideal for someone managing their own workload and looking to take ownership of a defined inspection programme.
The Role
You'll be responsible for delivering a full programme of Food Hygiene inspections in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice, ensuring local food businesses are compliant with statutory food safety requirements.
You'll plan and complete inspections to agreed timescales, with flexibility around working patterns to fit your schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake approximately 80 Category C and D Food Hygiene inspections.
Complete inspection reports and risk ratings in line with the Food Law Code of Practice.
Provide clear advice and guidance to food business operators.
Submit all completed inspection records and supporting evidence to the Council in an agreed format.
Maintain high professional and reporting standards throughout the project.
Essential Requirements
Environmental Health Degree or Diploma, with EHRB / CIEH registration (or equivalent).
Food Competency Certificate in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice.
Proven experience delivering Food Hygiene inspections for Local Authorities.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
Desirable
Experience using local authority inspection systems (e.g. Tascomi, Civica, IDOX).
Recent inspection experience within the last 2 years.
