Job Description

Position: Acoustic Consultant Location: Wakefield Salary: £29,000 - £32,000 DOE A nationwide building consultancy that delivers expertise in building safety, environmental compliance and technical project support across the built environment. Due to ongoing expansion, they are seeking an Acoustic Consultant to join their growing acoustics and environmental division. This is a great opportunity for someone with around 1-3 years of consultancy experience to develop their career across environmental, architectural and building acoustics. You'll contribute to design teams, produce high-quality assessments and play a key role in client-facing project delivery. Main Duties Technical Work Undertake environmental noise and vibration monitoring, baseline surveys and compliance assessments Use industry-standard modelling tools (CadnaA, SoundPLAN, Odeon, Insul) to carry out acoustic modelling Produce clear, accurate reports in line with BS4142, BS8233, BS5228, ProPG, WHO and other relevant standards Deliver building acoustics services including sound insulation design, reverberation analysis and internal noise criteria assessments Help develop noise control and mitigation strategies for planning and building design Project Management Oversee projects from initiation to completion, maintaining technical accuracy, controlling budgets and meeting deadlines Prepare proposals, quotations and supporting documentation Communicate effectively with clients, planners and design teams Attend site inspections and design meetings, offering clear, professional guidance Compliance Ensure all work complies with current legislation, standards and best-practice guidance Keep accurate records of surveys, equipment calibration and QA documentation Skills & Experience Essential Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, Environmental Science or a similar field 1-3 years' experience in acoustic consultancy Solid understanding of UK acoustic standards and guidance Confident using sound level meters and monitoring equipment Strong analytical abilities with excellent reporting and communication skills Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel Ability to work independently and collaboratively Good organisational and time-management skills Proactive, solution-oriented attitude Desirable IOA membership (AMIOA/MIOA) or working towards it Experience with modelling software such as CadnaA or SoundPLAN Knowledge of vibration assessments and monitoring Experience in architectural acoustics or mechanical services noise control Benefits Up to 30 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays Support for professional development, including IOA membership and training Opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and high-profile projects Flexible working options Supportive team culture with clear career progression Healthcare cash plan (dental, optical, hospital benefits, etc.) 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme Workplace pension Company sick pay after probation If you'd like to learn more about this Acoustic Consultant vacancy, or discuss other acoustics roles, please get in touch with Abi King at Penguin Recruitment.
