Additional Needs Teaching Assistant – Torfaen Location: Torfaen, South Wales Pay Rate: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday Start Date: September 2025  A fantastic opportunity has become available to join a secondary school in Torfaen as an Additional Needs Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils within a dedicated Special Needs Resource Base (SNRB). This is a full-time role starting in September 2025, during school hours (8:30am–3:30pm). The position offers both challenge and reward as you work directly with students who need extra support with their learning and development. About the Role: You’ll be providing essential support to students aged 11–16 who have a range of additional learning needs, including: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) ADHD Behavioural and emotional needs Low literacy and numeracy levels Nurture and social development challenges Your key responsibilities will include: Working 1:1 or in small groups with pupils to build confidence and improve focus Supporting life skills development and helping pupils engage with everyday routines Assisting with reading, writing, and basic numeracy interventions Creating a safe, inclusive learning environment with the guidance of the class teacher Using your initiative and creativity to adapt activities to meet pupils’ individual needs This role is particularly well-suited to someone calm, empathetic, proactive, and confident working independently as well as part of a team. What the School Is Looking For: The school is keen to welcome a Teaching Assistant who is: Kind, patient, and consistent in approach Able to adapt quickly and think on their feet Comfortable supporting students with complex needs Passionate about inclusion and making a positive impact in pupils’ lives Experience with SEN, behavioural needs, or youth support is desirable, but not essential. The most important qualities are your attitude and willingness to learn.
