Job Description

Part‑Time Chaplain (Church of England / Free Church) HMP Forest Bank – 20 hours per week HMP Forest Bank is seeking a Church of England / Free Church Chaplain to join our multi‑faith Chaplaincy Team on a part‑time (20 hours per week) basis. This is a meaningful pastoral role supporting both prisoners and staff, helping people explore faith, find hope, and prepare for life beyond custody. About HMP Forest Bank HMP Forest Bank serves the courts of Greater Manchester and works closely with local communities to support rehabilitation and resettlement. We are committed to helping people change their lives through education, wellbeing support and strong community partnerships. The Role You will: Provide pastoral care and worship to prisoners and staff Lead Anglican / Free Church services and faith activities Offer support to people of all faiths and none Work collaboratively within a multi‑faith chaplaincy team Visit individuals in healthcare, care & separation units when required Support people preparing for release and reconnection with community faith groups Liaise with local churches and encourage community involvement in rehabilitation What We’re Looking For Formal recognition/authorisation from the Church of England or a Free Church denomination Experience in pastoral care (prison, healthcare, community or parish settings welcome) Ability to work sensitively in a diverse, multi‑faith environment Strong listening, communication and boundary‑setting skills Confidence supporting people during crisis or distressPrevious prison experience is helpful but not essential.
