Archives Project Worker (Fixed Term)
Location: Brighton
Salary: £15.13 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.
Brighton College are seeking to appoint Archives Project Worker on a Fixed term basis.
Main Purpose of the Role: Every summer we work to rationalise the storage of pupil and staff leaver files across the College. During the summer of 2026, we aim to collect, organise, and rehouse the previous academic years’ pupil and staff leaver files. We will also be preparing some of our historical leaver files for shredding, in line with our retention and deletion policies, and re-cataloguing and re-boxing the remaining files.
We will also carry out administrative work on any other files that are to be transferred for further retention. There may also be scope for carrying out the scanning and cataloguing of other retained files.
About the Project: This is a big project and so we are looking for people to join us. We anticipate the work will take between three and four weeks, starting approximately 7 July 2026. Based on the contents of the files, those working on the project will be fully briefed on handling confidential material and adhering to data protection regulations. You will also be required to sign a confidentiality agreement. Flexibility is key.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
* With the rest of the team, physically sorting files which will have come from various locations and will be in many boxes.
* Reviewing files against existing school data.
* Creating an up-to-date catalogue of files sorted.
* Updating the catalogues for the previous years’ files.
* Packaging the files appropriately, including clear and accurate labelling.
* Assisting with the relocation of boxed files to storage and updating the locations spreadsheets.
* Reviewing historical files alongside the archivist and designating files that can be shredded.
* Any other reasonable management requests.
Person Specifications:
The successful candidate will be:
* Good organisation and planning skills.
* A working knowledge of Excel.
* A working knowledge of Word.
* An understanding of manual handling – training will be given.
* You need to recognise that this work will include lifting boxes and will involve getting a little dirty!
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm (or as agreed) with a 60 minute unpaid lunch break (35 hours per week) for approximately three to four weeks.
Remuneration
£15.13 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay. Complimentary lunch is also provided.
Holidays
Holiday entitlement is included in the hourly pay rate for this role.
