Area General Manager – Data Centres
Location: Berkshire
Salary: £85,000–£95,000 per annum
Bonus: Discretionary bonus

Nexus Careers is working with a leading data centre and critical facilities provider to recruit an experienced Area General Manager to oversee engineering operations across a cluster of data centres in Berkshire.
This is a senior technical leadership role with responsibility for engineering performance, operational delivery, people management and client relationships across multiple critical sites.
The successful candidate must come from a strong technical engineering background and have proven experience managing teams and services within data centres, critical environments or complex building services operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee engineering operations across a cluster of data centre sites.
* Lead and develop Data Centre Managers, Engineering Managers and technical teams.
* Ensure critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure is maintained safely and reliably.
* Drive engineering performance, resilience and operational consistency across the portfolio.
* Oversee planned, reactive, statutory and lifecycle maintenance programmes.
* Manage technical incidents, escalations and root-cause investigations.
* Ensure compliance with permits, safe systems of work and operational procedures.
* Monitor performance against contractual KPIs, SLAs and client expectations.
* Maintain senior-level relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
* Review operational reports and present performance updates.
* Support technical projects, asset replacement and infrastructure upgrades.
* Manage budgets, forecasts, expenditure and commercial performance.
* Identify efficiencies, cost savings and service improvement opportunities.
* Ensure appropriate staffing, succession planning and team development.
* Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements
* Strong technical background within electrical, mechanical or building services engineering.
* Senior management experience within data centres or critical environments.
* Experience overseeing multiple sites or a regional engineering portfolio.
* Strong knowledge of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
* Proven experience leading managers, engineers and specialist contractors.
* Good commercial and financial awareness.
* Strong client, stakeholder and contract management skills.
* Relevant technical, engineering or management qualifications.
* Confident leadership style with strong communication and decision-making skills.
