A specialist secondary school dedicated to supporting young people aged 11 to 17 with autism is seeking a highly motivated and fully qualified Art Teacher to join their dedicated team. The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Art lessons that inspire creativity and develop artistic skills tailored to the needs of students with autism. You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that accommodate a range of learning styles and abilities. You will also contribute to the overall curriculum development and participate in wider school activities and initiatives.
You will be supported in the classroom by Learning Support Assistants (LSA), enabling you to focus on delivering effective teaching while ensuring all students receive the individual support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated Art lessons to students aged 11-17 with autism
Plan, prepare, and assess student work in line with school policies and curriculum standards
Work collaboratively with LSAs to support student learning and behaviour management
Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to students and parents as appropriate
Contribute to curriculum development and extra-curricular activities within the department
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Candidate Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
Experience working with students with autism or in a specialist educational setting is highly desirable
Strong subject knowledge in Art and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse needs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Reliable transport is essential due to the school’s rural location
Full enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to obtain at own cost
Contract Details:
Full-time position, starting September
Temporary contract initially, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position following a successful probationary period
