ASD Tutor:
Based in Westminster, we are looking for a dedicated and experienced ASD Tutor to support a KS1 student with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). This role begins in September and offers 17 hours per week of meaningful, one-to-one tutoring based in Westminster. This role is unique, as it is not classroom based and is largely play-based as well. Your role will be to help the lead tutor and assist in various activities both educational and non educational.
ASD tutor specifics:
Hours: 17 hours per week
Start Date: September 2025
Pay: £17-19 per hour
Location: Westminster, very close to Victoria station
About the ASD Tutor role:
Provide one-to-one tuition and be willing to do social activities with the student
Assist in delivering personalised lessons tailored to the student's individual needs, interests, and learning style.
The tutor will be willing to take the student with another adult to community based activities such as soft plays, water parks etc
Build a trusting relationship that encourages engagement
Assist in writing summary reports to give to parents and other teams
be willing to adapt to the young person's routine
About the ASD tuition:
The student has a PDA profile, which is part of the autism spectrum and characterised by:
A strong need for control and avoidance of everyday demands.
High levels of anxiety when faced with expectations.
A preference for non-directive, collaborative interactions.
The right ASD tutor will be creative, patient, and adaptable in their approach, using techniques that reduce pressure and support the student's emotional regulation.
Ideal ASD tutor:
Experience working with SEN children, particularly those with autism and/or a PDA profile.
Understanding of effective PDA strategies, such as using indirect language, offering choices, and building cooperation through trust and rapport.
Confident in planning and adapting lessons in line with KS1 learning objectives.
Calm, empathetic, and responsive to the child's needs and cues.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
ASD tutor requirements:
Experience in SEN, tutoring, or teaching (particularly with autism/PDA).
Willingness to undertake the complexities of the tutoring with an open mind
