We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Psychology Graduate aspiring to become an Educational Psychologist to join secondary schools across South Tyneside as a Learning Support Assistant.
 This full-time role offers meaningful day-to-day experience supporting students with a variety of additional needs, while developing essential skills in learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.

This role gives you direct exposure to the practical elements of educational psychology—perfect preparation for postgraduate study or an Educational Psychology Doctorate.
 You will support pupils aged 11–18 with needs such as Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
You will develop skills in:
Emotional regulation, behaviour support & sensory strategies
Working alongside SEND teams, therapists & educational psychologists
Restorative and trauma-informed approaches
Communication, observation & reflective practice
This is a valuable opportunity to apply psychological theory in real school settings and build a strong foundation for future psychology training.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver 1:1 and small-group learning and emotional support
Assist with monitoring and updating personalised support plans
Help students regulate emotions, manage behaviour & engage in learning (training provided)
Build positive relationships with students and staff
Maintain accurate records and reflect on student progress
We’re Looking For
A degree in Psychology or related field (required)
Genuine interest in child, developmental, or educational psychology
Experience supporting young people (desirable but not essential)
Empathy, resilience & strong communication skills
Commitment to a full academic year in school
