A well-established PSV garage in Ashington is seeking an experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to support the daily operations of its busy maintenance and repair facility. This is a great opportunity to join a professional team maintaining a fleet of public service vehicles to the highest safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Engineering Manager in the effective running of the workshop
Oversee and assist with scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on PSV vehicles
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with DVSA and company standards
Coordinate with engineers and administrative staff to maintain productivity and service levels
Manage workshop compliance including health & safety, environmental and quality standards
Provide guidance and technical support to workshop staff, including mentoring junior engineers
Assist in maintaining parts stock levels and liaising with suppliers as requiredRequirements:
Proven experience working with PSV vehicles in a workshop environment
Recognised technical qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of DVSA regulations and PSV compliance standards
Supervisory or team leadership experience in a similar setting
Ability to diagnose and resolve technical faults quickly and effectively
Excellent communication and organisational skillsDesirable:
Category D licence (PCV)
IRTEC accreditation
Experience with workshop management softwareThis role is ideal for a Senior PSV Technician or Workshop Supervisor looking to progress into a management role, or an existing Assistant Manager seeking a fresh challenge.
