Job Description

Assistant Headteacher Location: Newbury, UK Salary: Up to £53,000 per annum (depending on experience) Contract: Permanent Start Date: ASAP Our client, a specialist provision in Newbury supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of complex needs, is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Assistant Headteacher. The school provides full-time education for pupils who may have communication difficulties, autism, or behaviours associated with their additional needs, offering a nurturing environment tailored to each student's development. About the Role As Assistant Headteacher, you will take on both teaching responsibilities and a strategic leadership role within the senior leadership team. Working collaboratively with senior leaders, the SENCo, parents, governors, and external agencies, you will play an essential part in maintaining and improving high standards of teaching, learning, and overall provision across the school. This role requires flexibility and a proactive approach, with specific responsibilities within the senior leadership team allocated upon appointment. Key Responsibilities * Uphold and promote the school’s ethos, values, and overarching vision. * Deliver high-quality teaching that results in strong student outcomes while continually developing your own practice. * Lead strategically on key areas of school improvement, contributing to the continued enhancement of teaching, learning, and curriculum development. * Support the development and implementation of a clear, cohesive curriculum that meets the needs of pupils with SEMH and complex needs. * Guide and support staff in understanding the importance of high-quality teaching and effective curriculum delivery. * Promote and sustain high expectations for student progress and achievement. * Ensure staff maintain strong subject knowledge aligned with current curriculum expectations and pupil needs. Essential Requirements * PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification * Evidence of continued professional development in leadership, curriculum, and teaching practice * Ability to reflect on and develop personal learning needs, while supporting others to do the same * Minimum of 5 years’ successful teaching experience (experience within specialist or SEMH settings desirable) * Demonstrated success in leading whole-school initiatives and achieving positive outcomes * Strong understanding of curriculum, teaching, and learning, particularly for SEMH and complex needs environments Application Process Please apply by submitting a CV and cover letter via the application link
