Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Civils & Groundworks (Residential)
We’re seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established civils and groundworks contractor based in St Albans. Our projects span residential schemes of 80 to 400 units, with packages up to £20m in value.
This is an ideal opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step. You’ll receive dedicated support from a Senior QS, with a clear path to running your own jobs within 12–18 months.
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in managing costs, supporting project delivery, and ensuring commercial control across multiple housing developments.
Responsibilities:
* Work alongside the Senior QS as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, managing the commercial aspects of groundworks and civils packages
* Assist with procurement, cost reporting, valuations, and final accounts
* Support the preparation of tenders and subcontractor packages
* Attend site meetings as the project’s Assistant Quantity Surveyor and liaise with delivery teams
* Maintain accurate records and documentation throughout each project phase
Requirements:
* 1–3 years’ experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Junior QS
* A degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related field
* Exposure to civil engineering, groundworks, or residential construction
* Good communication and organisation skills
* A full UK driving licence
