Overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Assistant SENCO to join a specialist educational setting in the Redhill area. We are seeking a committed, proactive, and organised individual to support the SENDCo in driving an inclusive approach to SEND across the school.
Main Purpose
To support the SENDCo in promoting inclusive practice for pupils with Special Educational Needs and to contribute to high-quality provision across the school.
Key Responsibilities
Inclusive Support & Coordination
Assist the SENDCo in promoting an inclusive approach to SEN school-wide.
Contribute to the Annual Review process, working closely with admin support where needed.
Build effective relationships with Local Authority EHCP Coordinators and external professionals.
Support the delivery of a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum to help pupils reach their full potential.
Assist the SENDCo in delivering CPD to teaching staff.
Ensure effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders regarding pupils' needs and progress.
Recording, Assessment & Monitoring
Support systems for identifying, reviewing, and monitoring pupils' needs.
Lead and chair Annual Review meetings for EHCPs.
Maintain positive communication with parents, including meetings and parents' evenings.
Leadership & Professional Development
Support training opportunities for LSAs and teachers on SEN, including INSET.
Share and promote best practice in SEN.
Assist with transition planning and integration for pupils moving to or from the provision.
Liaise with outside professionals and share reports and recommendations with staff.
Stay informed on developments in SEND legislation, research, and practice, and report relevant updates to senior leaders.
Attend training and conferences, sharing feedback with colleagues.
Model good practice in teaching pupils with SEN, including those with complex needs.
Other Responsibilities
Undertake any reasonable tasks requested by the Head of School.
Contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider life of this busy school.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Qualifications:
SENCO/Access Arrangement Assessor qualification preferred, or a willingness to work towards this.
English and Maths at Level 2 or above.
Teaching qualification preferable (required for achieving the National Award in SEND Coordination).
Experience & Knowledge:
Recent and relevant experience working with pupils with SEN.
Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
Knowledge of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
Experience using a range of behaviour approaches, including managing behaviours that challenge.
Skills:
A person-centred, pupil-focused approach.
Creative, positive, and adaptive in meeting individual needs.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
Excellent literacy and good numeracy.
Confident use of professional SEND terminology.
