Vacancy No 5359 Job Title: Associate Director – Structural Facade Location: Birmingham Reports To: Managing Director Department: Structural Facade Engineering Employment Type: Full-Time Role Overview We are seeking a confident and experienced Associate Director – Structural Facade to play a pivotal role in the continued success and growth of our business. This senior-level position requires a technically accomplished Chartered Engineer with outstanding leadership skills, capable of managing engineering teams, driving business development, and ensuring the highest standards of technical delivery and risk management across structural facade projects. As a key member of the leadership team, you will inspire others, manage client relationships, and actively contribute to shaping the future direction of the business. You will be expected to lead from the front, combining technical excellence with commercial awareness and strategic vision. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development * Lead, mentor, and develop a team of structural engineers, supporting professional development and progression to chartered status. * Act as a formal mentor (ICE mentor) and reviewer for engineers pursuing chartership. * Oversee recruitment and help shape the engineering team in alignment with business needs. * Promote a culture of high performance, quality, and accountability. Project & Technical Delivery * Lead and deliver complex structural facade design projects across a range of sectors. * Ensure compliance with relevant design codes, standards, and best practices. * Review and sign off technical outputs from the engineering team. * Manage project risk and ensure technical quality across all deliverables. Client & Commercial Management * Act as the primary point of contact for key clients; manage and nurture client relationships. * Price and resource projects, coordinate handover to delivery teams, and oversee quality assurance. * Ensure timely and accurate invoicing in collaboration with the accounts team. * Review contract documentation and support negotiation processes. Business Development & Strategy * Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with the company’s strategic goals. * Represent the company at industry events and build strong relationships within the sector. * Participate in and contribute to professional organisations and industry associations. * Drive continuous improvement in business processes and technical practices. Required Qualifications & Experience * Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:1) in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related field. * Chartered status with the ICE or IStructE. * Demonstrated experience in structural facade engineering and design, including deep knowledge of building envelope systems. * Strong understanding of relevant codes and standards, including Eurocodes and BS EN documents. * Proficient in structural analysis and design software such as SCIA Engineer, IDEA StatiCa, Tekla Structural Designer, Dlubal, SJ Mepla, and others. * Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and guide engineering teams. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in client-facing roles. * High ethical standards and a strong commitment to quality and safety. * Well-established industry network and the ability to generate new business leads. * Registration on the Engineering Council UK's Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) Register is desirable.
