Technical Director - Town Planning Location: Birmingham (with hybrid working) Employment Type: Full-time | Permanent Salary: Highly Competitive + Bonus + Package We are working on behalf of a globally recognised multi-disciplinary consultancy to find an experienced Technical Director or Associate Director in town planning. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly regarded planning and environmental consultancy delivering some of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure, energy, and development projects. The planning team is part of a broader environmental practice that collaborates with major clients across transport, energy, water, housing, and government. The Role As Technical Director, you will: Lead the delivery of complex planning projects across infrastructure, development and energy sectors. Manage and grow a regional team of town planners, supporting professional development and fostering a high-performing culture. Take responsibility for business development, working closely with the national planning leadership team to win new work, build client relationships and expand market presence. Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams on major UK infrastructure projects including energy transition, rail, highways, water, housing, and regeneration. Key Projects and Clients The consultancy currently supports a wide range of major infrastructure programmes and clients, including: Water and utility providers (e.g. Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water) Rail projects (e.g. HS2, Transpennine Route Upgrade) Renewable energy and low-carbon infrastructure (e.g. hydrogen generation, floating offshore wind, nuclear waste services) About You You will have: A degree (and preferably a postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline, with Chartered Membership of the RTPI. Substantial planning experience in consultancy or a similarly complex project delivery environment. A strong track record of leading multi-disciplinary planning teams and managing high-value, strategic infrastructure or development projects. Demonstrated business development skills, with experience winning and delivering major commissions. Why Join?
