We are currently partnered with one of the UK's leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancies, as they look to add an Associate Structural Engineer to their division in London.
As part of a multidisciplinary consultancy the Structural Engineering team provide a comprehensive range of design and surveying services to support clients through the whole project life cycle; offering a full multi-disciplinary service or standalone specialist technical services for projects all sizes, including some exceeding £100 million in value.
As an Associate within the Structural Engineering Team working on their prestigious projects you will need to manage and be able to undertake all aspects of the engineering design and financial management of the projects and your section of the team. You will cover a wide range of disciplines in property and construction and be responsible for providing a wide range of structural engineering services under the direction of the team's Partner.
The team has particular expertise in regeneration, education and modular projects, all materials utilised however in particular concrete and steel and long span steel structures.
What you need to do to be effective in this role:
Carrying out surveys and providing advice on any issues that may arise. Analysing and reporting on defects and remediation if required
Preparation of detailed design calculations to Eurocodes and relevant design guidance notes by hand and computer aided techniques
Preparation of detailed design drawings and specifications for Tender purposes. Production of Construction information for issue to Contractors. By hand and computer aided techniques
Visiting sites during the Construction phase to monitor progress and provide advice to Contractors
Day-to-day support to colleagues from other disciplines within the office
Supervise Engineers and BIM Technicians
Represent the company at external meetings with clients and fellow professionals
Be responsible for delivering work to a fee agreed with a Project Manager
Project profitability (monitoring / planning of costs and budgets)
Prepare client / project proposals
Assist in negotiating fee proposals and requesting additional fees
Construct project teams from internal and external resources
Agree design philosophy / design fundamentals
Reviewing and commenting upon reports
Surveying existing structures and providing written reports
Reviewing client documents and drafting synopses
The skills and experience you need to have for this role
Excellent communication skills, in both written and spoken English
Minimum 6-8 years design experience
Ideally Chartered professional status (MIStructE or MICE)
A relevant engineering qualification (MEng or equivalent)
Evidence experience of working in a similar role, ideally within a private practice
Project experience throughout the stages of the RIBA plan of work
Possess a good working knowledge of Software such as SCIA, Tekla and TEDDS
Experience of managing engineers and technicians
Competent and reliable designer in structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber
Experience of refurbishment and change of use designs as well as new build work
Familiar and empathetic with all forms of building construction
