Autism 1:1 Support: Special Needs School (SEN)
Start Date: September 2025 (Subject to registration)
Type: Full-time and Flexible Options Available
Location: Bolton, Bury & Salford Placements available
We’re seeking caring, reliable and proactive individuals to join our Bolton-based special needs secondary school as a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting young people with Autism (ASC), Moderate to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (MLD–PMLD), and a range of complex learning and communication needs.
What You’ll Be Doing: A Day in the Life
1:1 Student Support
You will work closely with an individual student or rotate among students depending on the needs of the class. You’ll build trust and consistency, helping each young person engage in learning, communicate more effectively, and navigate the school day with confidence. You may support emotional regulation, sensory processing, mobility or personal care, depending on the student’s needs.
In the Classroom
You’ll assist the class teacher in delivering adapted lessons to small groups and the whole class. You’ll help prepare resources, support differentiated activities, and maintain a structured and inclusive learning environment. You’ll play a key role in encouraging participation, managing transitions and reinforcing routines that help students thrive.
Daily Learning and Problem-Solving
Every day will bring different challenges and rewards. You’ll learn to adapt your approach depending on what works best for each student, whether that’s supporting a student during a sensory overload, finding a new way to explain a concept, or simply being a steady, reassuring presence.
Collaborative Working
You’ll be part of a wider team of teachers, therapists and support staff. You’ll regularly reflect with colleagues, share strategies, and contribute to consistent and holistic support for each student.
Who This Role Is For
