What’s the job?
We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled teacher to join a highly regarded special school in Portsmouth. You’ll be working with primary-aged pupils (4–11) with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and associated communication and behavioural needs.

Who are you?
QTS or equivalent teaching qualified (experience in SEN essential)
Experience or strong understanding of Autism, SLD, and associated behaviours
A creative, patient, and resilient approach to teaching and learning
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
A collaborative team player who works well with parents and professionals
Commitment to inclusive practice and safeguarding
What’s the role?
As an Autism/SLD Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs by:
Planning and delivering highly individualised lessons that are engaging, multisensory, and accessible to non-verbal and pre-verbal learners.
Creating a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
Working closely with a team of experienced support staff, therapists, and families to ensure consistent, person-centred care.
Using tools such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables to enhance communication and understanding.
Tracking progress carefully and adapting approaches to meet EHCP targets and developmental milestones.
