Autism / Severe Learning Difficulties Teacher Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary Location: Portsmouth Pay: £160 to £250 dependent on experience* Start Date: September ’25 to July ’26 – Maternity Cover   What’s the job? We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled teacher to join a highly regarded special school in Portsmouth. You’ll be working with primary-aged pupils (4–11) with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and associated communication and behavioural needs. As an Autism/SLD Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs by: Planning and delivering highly individualised lessons that are engaging, multisensory, and accessible to non-verbal and pre-verbal learners. Creating a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional regulation. Working closely with a team of experienced support staff, therapists, and families to ensure consistent, person-centred care. Using tools such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables to enhance communication and understanding.
