A specialist school in Swindon is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Autism Support Assistant to join its dedicated team. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff to support children aged 5-16 with Autism, communication needs, sensory differences and a variety of additional learning requirements.
About the Role
As an Autism Support Assistant, you will provide individualised support to help children feel comfortable, engaged and confident within their learning environment.
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing one-to-one and small-group support both inside and outside the classroom.
Helping children access lessons and participate in a range of educational activities.
Supporting communication and encouraging children to express their needs, feelings and ideas.
Helping children develop social skills and positive relationships with those around them.
Providing reassurance and support when children experience emotional or sensory difficulties.
Encouraging greater independence through practical activities and everyday routines.
Supporting the development of confidence, resilience and essential life skills.
Following individual support plans and agreed strategies to meet each child's specific needs.
Working closely with teachers, therapists and SEN professionals to promote children's progress.
Creating a calm, inclusive and encouraging environment where every child is supported to succeed.
About You
You do not necessarily need previous specialist school experience. We are looking for someone who is patient, caring, adaptable and enthusiastic about working with children with Autism and additional needs.
The ability to build trusting relationships is essential. You should be comfortable taking a calm and consistent approach, recognising that every child will have their own communication style, personality, strengths and challenges.
