Salary: £43,000 – £52,000 + overtime & on-call uplift + company van + flextime

The Role
Are you an Automation & Controls Engineer who thrives on variety and problem-solving? This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple industries, tackling complex challenges that keep production lines running smoothly and critical systems operational. This isn’t a corporate tick-box job. You’ll be working as part of a tight-knit engineering team, tackling everything from troubleshooting live systems to delivering complete automation projects.. With the business recently expanding its 24/7 service contracts, the work is fast-paced, critical, and hugely rewarding.
What You’ll Be Doing
Fault finding and problem solving – diagnosing issues across electrical hardware, PLC software, HMIs, and control systems, often on live customer sites where quick thinking matters.
Customer support & service delivery – providing breakdown response and ongoing technical support to clients in food, utilities, manufacturing, and other fast-moving sectors.
Designing and building solutions – from electrical schematics and control panel layouts to PLC programming, SCADA configuration, and software testing.
Commissioning automation projects – taking systems from concept to operational handover, ensuring smooth integration with existing equipment.
Working across environments – splitting your time between field service, hands-on panel/shop-floor work, and office-based design and documentation.
Collaborating within a close-knit team – sharing knowledge, mentoring where appropriate, and contributing to a culture of practical, solutions-driven engineering. What We’re Looking For
If you are an automation engineer who thrives on solving complex problems—whether fault-finding on live systems or delivering bespoke automation projects—and are hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable balancing site work, panel/build tasks, and office-based design in a fast-moving environment, this role could be a great fit for you.
3+ years’ experience in automation/controls engineering
HNC or higher in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
