Automation Engineer - Water & Utilities Location: Co. Carlow (Ireland) Job type: Permanent, full-time Salary: €60,000 - €70,000 Are you an experienced Automation Engineer looking for a role where you can lead projects end-to-end and see the real-world impact of your work? We are recruiting an Automation Engineer for a well-established engineering company in Co. Carlow. Their Control & Automation division is one of Ireland's largest, delivering turnkey electrical design and automation solutions to complex challenges in the water, wastewater, environmental and industrial sectors. If you enjoy PLC programming, SCADA development and commissioning automation systems on live sites, this could be the ideal next step. The Role This role is suited to an Automation Engineer with a strong PLC background, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure. You will: Manage automation projects from initial brief through design, FDS, programming, FAT, commissioning and handover Design, program and commission PLC, HMI and SCADA systems Work predominantly from the office, with site attendance during commissioning phases Design automation systems and networks for water, wastewater and industrial projects Carry out PLC & HMI programming, SCADA development and panel-related software work Validate and commission PLC, instrumentation and electrical control systems on site Perform fault diagnostics and modifications to existing automation systems Undertake Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and ensure compliance with documentation and standards Monitor and optimise instrumentation, PLC and electrical control systems Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams to achieve project commissioning goals Conduct Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) and support system sign-off with clients Liaise with internal departments to ensure projects are delivered on time and to required quality standards Provide on-site support for installations and occasional emergency call-outs Requirements Minimum 10 years' experience in PLC solutions, with experience in at least three of the following: ABB, Schneider, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, Motorola Experience with automation of electronic instruments and drive networks Strong, demonstrable experience in control systems design and application Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Excellent verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of the water and wastewater treatment industry Customer-focused, with strong interpersonal skills Excellent time management and ability to work with minimal supervision Clean Irish driving licence What's on Offer Salary: €60,000 - €70,000 (depending on experience) 25 days annual leave per year Company van Long-term, permanent role in a busy automation & controls team Varied work combining office-based design/programming and on-site commissioning How to Apply If you would like to hear more about this opportunity, please apply with your up-to-date CV via Indeed.
