Automation Software Engineer
Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £45,000 – £52,000 + Benefits
Type: Full-time, Permanent
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Automation Software Engineer to join a well-established engineering company based in Greater Manchester. You’ll be part of a skilled team working on the development and configuration of automation software for packaging machinery — including new builds, R&D, and retrofit projects.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Programming Siemens PLCs, SCADA, and drive systems (TIA Portal, WinCC, Sinamics S120)
*
Creating and adapting automation software for standard and bespoke machinery
*
Supporting commissioning and troubleshooting, both on-site and internationally
*
Managing your own software design projects and liaising with internal and external stakeholders
What We’re Looking For:
*
Strong experience in Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC SCADA programming
*
Familiarity with Sinamics S120 & CU320 drive systems
*
Understanding of machine control systems including pneumatics, hydraulics, and FieldBus
*
Degree or HND in Engineering (Electrical, Automation, or related discipline)
*
Willingness to travel globally when required
*
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Desirable:
*
Electrical design experience (control cabinets)
*
Roll-to-roll winding knowledge
*
Experience in machinery commissioning
