We are seeking an experienced and resilient Behaviour Lead to play a vital operational role within our Internal Behaviour Unit / Inclusion Centre at a supportive secondary academy in Preston, Lancashire. This role is crucial for managing the day-to-day running of the unit, delivering intensive support, and ensuring students are successfully prepared for reintegration into mainstream lessons. Core Responsibilities: Operational Management and Support You will be the key figure ensuring the Unit operates effectively, focusing on stable and positive outcomes for students: Unit Management: Oversee the daily operations of the Behaviour Unit, ensuring structured routines, appropriate resources, and a calm, safe learning environment. Intensive Intervention: Deliver one-to-one and small group support focused on behaviour modification, emotional regulation, and social skill development, targeting students with complex SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. De-escalation: Be the primary staff member responsible for de-escalating crises and managing challenging behaviour within the Unit, consistently applying restorative justice and trauma-informed techniques. Reintegration Planning: Manage and execute personalised reintegration plans, collaborating with class teachers and Heads of Year to ensure successful, sustained returns to the mainstream classroom. Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of student behaviour, intervention progress, and incidents, contributing to high-quality reports for the Pastoral Leadership Team. Staff Support: Provide guidance and support to other support staff within the unit, ensuring consistency in approach and high professional standards. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will have strong practical skills in therapeutic behaviour management: Experience: Significant, recent experience working directly with secondary-aged pupils (KS3/KS4) who present with challenging or complex behaviour in a structured setting (e.g., AP, PRU, Internal Exclusion Unit, or Residential Care). Skills: Expert knowledge and demonstrable skill in de-escalation techniques, relationship building, and restorative practices. Knowledge: A clear understanding of the principles of trauma-informed care and SEMH support. Resilience: Exceptional levels of patience, professional resilience, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure. Safeguarding: A robust understanding of school safeguarding procedures.
