Job Description

Job Title: Behaviour Mentors - PRU Settings Location: Harrow, North-West London Start Date: September 2025 Contract Type: Full-Time / Long-Term / Flexible Supply Salary: Competitive PAYE Rates - Weekly Pay Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with several Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and alternative provisions across the London Borough of Harrow, and we are currently recruiting confident, resilient, and skilled Behaviour Mentors to join these teams from September 2025. These are vital, rewarding roles that support some of the most vulnerable young people in education-ideal for candidates with a background in youth work, SEN, or behaviour intervention who are looking to make a long-term impact. About the Settings: PRUs in Harrow provide education for students who have been permanently or temporarily excluded from mainstream schools, or who require an alternative approach due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Pupils may present with challenging behaviour, anxiety, low engagement, or past trauma. The focus of these schools is on re-engagement, consistency, and positive behaviour support, underpinned by strong staff-student relationships and trauma-informed practice. The Role: As a Behaviour Mentor, you will: Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs Support the implementation of individual behaviour plans and strategies Build trust-based, professional relationships to promote emotional wellbeing De-escalate challenging situations using calm, consistent and positive interventions Contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing school environment Liaise with teachers, inclusion leads, and external agencies where appropriate Ideal Candidate Will Have: Previous experience working with students with SEMH, behavioural difficulties or trauma-related needs A background in education, youth work, social care, or mental health support Training in behaviour management techniques - Team Teach, MAPA, or similar (desirable but not essential; training can be provided) A calm, confident, and empathetic approach A high level of resilience and a genuine desire to support vulnerable pupils Strong interpersonal and communication skills An understanding of safeguarding and child protection Why Work with Tradewind Recruitment?
