Job Description

Job Title: Behaviour Mentor Location: Barnet, North London Start Date: September 2025 Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Salary: £90 - £115 per day (PAYE, DOE) Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a resilient and dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a dynamic Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Barnet from September 2025. This role offers the chance to work in a highly supportive setting with young people who have been excluded from mainstream education and present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, and challenging behaviour. The Role: As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be central to helping pupils re-engage with learning and develop the social and emotional skills needed to succeed. Responsibilities include: Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions to support behaviour and learning Implementing tailored behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques Encouraging positive choices, resilience, and self-esteem through mentoring and role-modelling Supporting teaching staff in maintaining a calm, structured, and safe classroom environment Building strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families to ensure joined-up support What We're Looking For: Previous experience working with young people in a PRU, SEMH school, alternative provision, or youth work setting A calm, patient and confident approach when managing challenging behaviour Strong communication, empathy and teamwork skills Knowledge of trauma-informed practice is highly valued Training such as Team Teach or MAPA is desirable (support can be provided) An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply Why Join Tradewind Recruitment?
