Job Purpose
To support students in managing their behaviour, developing positive attitudes to learning, and improving their social and emotional skills. The Behaviour Mentor will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and parents to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
*
Provide targeted mentoring and support to individual students and small groups who present behavioural, emotional or social difficulties.
*
Develop and implement behaviour support plans in conjunction with teaching staff, the SENCO, and the pastoral team.
*
Act as a positive role model, encouraging students to make good choices and develop self-regulation skills.
*
Monitor and record students’ progress, behaviour incidents, and interventions on school systems.
*
Support staff in managing challenging behaviour within the classroom and around the school.
*
Lead or assist with restorative practices, mediation, and reintegration meetings after exclusions or incidents.
*
Work with parents/carers and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for students.
*
Contribute to whole-school strategies and initiatives that promote positive behaviour and attendance.
Person Specification
Essential:
*
Experience of working with young people aged 11–16 (in a school, youth work or similar setting).
*
Understanding of behaviour management strategies and safeguarding procedures.
*
Strong interpersonal, communication and conflict-resolution skills.
*
Ability to build positive relationships and motivate disengaged learners.
*
Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
Desirable:
*
Relevant qualification in youth work, counselling, or education support.
*
Experience with restorative approaches or social-emotional learning programmes.
*
Familiarity with SEND and additional behavioural needs.
