Job Description

Behaviour Mentor – Secondary Alternative Provision Location: Dagenham, RM9 Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm Pay Rate: £105 – £110 per day About the School: This secondary Alternative Provision in Dagenham supports students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from their mainstream school. The school provides a supportive, structured environment where students can re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and make progress both academically and personally. Role Overview: As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You will help them manage their emotions, make positive choices, and re-establish trust in education. Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff, you will assist in creating a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment. Key Roles and Responsibilities: * Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions to support emotional regulation and behaviour management. * Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and resilience. * Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and implementing individual behaviour plans. * De-escalate challenging situations in a calm and professional manner. * Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing regular feedback to staff and senior leaders. * Encourage positive attendance, punctuality, and participation in lessons. * Promote a culture of respect, self-discipline and responsibility among students. * Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and external agencies to support each learner’s development. * Model positive behaviour and maintain high expectations for all students. Requirements: * Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour, ideally within a school or alternative provision setting. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills. * Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. * A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people. * DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one. (UES1)
