We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join our supportive pastoral team at a thriving secondary school in Blackpool. This vital, hands-on role involves working closely with students aged 11-16 (Key Stage 3 & 4) who require additional support to manage their emotions, improve their attendance, and engage fully with their education. About the Role: Positive Behaviour Intervention The Behaviour Mentor plays a crucial role in creating a safe, calm, and orderly learning environment. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap for students facing challenges related to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), trauma, or complex behaviour. Core Responsibilities: 1:1 and Small Group Mentoring: Deliver structured 1:1 mentoring and targeted intervention sessions to students with identified behavioural needs, focusing on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and developing coping mechanisms. In-Class Support: Provide proactive and reactive in-class behaviour support, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to ensure minimal disruption to learning across Key Stage 3 & 4 lessons. Strategy Implementation: Confidently execute Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and monitor the effectiveness of SEMH support strategies, feeding back to the Pastoral Lead and SENCO. Incident Management: Manage and resolve challenging situations promptly and consistently, using restorative practice to help students reflect on their choices and take responsibility for their actions. Data & Communication: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and incident logs. Liaise consistently with parents/carers, teachers, and external agencies to ensure a consistent, supportive approach. Role Model: Act as a strong, positive role model for all students, promoting high expectations of conduct, attendance, and engagement throughout the school day. What We're Looking For We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated, shows exceptional empathy, and has proven success in managing challenging behaviour in a youth setting. Essential Experience & Skills: Significant experience working with the 11-16 age group who display challenging behaviour (ideally in a school, Alternative Provision, or Youth Work setting). Demonstrable expertise in de-escalation techniques and the ability to remain calm and authoritative under pressure. Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective, trusting therapeutic relationships with vulnerable students, staff, and families. High level of personal resilience, patience, and a non-judgmental approach. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Desirable Qualifications: A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Counselling, or equivalent). Training in recognised behaviour management strategies (e.g., Team Teach, PRICE, or similar Positive Handling training). Experience with students who have Autism (ASC) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Why Join Our Blackpool School?
