Job Description

Teaching Assistant – Behavioural Support - Cwmbran  • Do you have experience supporting individuals who display challenging behaviours? • Are you passionate about being a positive role model for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds? • Interested in earning between £444.60 and £509.60 per week? • Looking for CPD training opportunities and professional development? • Want access to a company pension scheme and additional benefits? • Ready for a rewarding challenge? • Considering a long-term career in the education sector? Vision for Education are actively recruiting individuals with experience supporting adults or children who display social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) to work in the Cwmbran area. We work closely with a pupil referral unit (PRU) that requires a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant to work with pupils on both a 1:1 and small-group basis. These pupils often face significant barriers outside of school, and your support can provide the stability and encouragement they need to thrive. For many, school is their safe space – a place where positive role models can make a genuine difference. The school is looking for someone who can help guide pupils in the right direction, build strong relationships, and de-escalate behaviours before they escalate. If a pupil becomes agitated, you’ll be encouraged to take them to a calm area, help them self-regulate, and support them back into learning when ready. Your ability to stay calm, think on your feet, and use positive reinforcement strategies will be essential. A Team Teach qualification or similar would be beneficial, but it is not essential as we can provide this training. What will the role involve? • Working with primary and secondary-aged pupils • Building strong, trusting, and supportive relationships • Supporting pupils in small groups or on a 1:1 basis • Remaining resilient and helping pupils through challenging situations • Working alongside the class teacher to assess needs and support learning • Encouraging positive interaction, cooperation, and engagement in class activities • Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques • Promoting learning and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following: • Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs • A Team Teach qualification or similar (PROACT-SCIP/MAPA) – desirable but not essential • An understanding of how to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment • Experience supporting primary or secondary-aged pupils • A flexible, empathetic, and proactive nature • The ability to remain calm, patient, and engaging under pressure • Knowledge of the National Curriculum • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register The school often offers permanent placements to individuals who demonstrate reliability, dedication, and a genuine commitment to pupils’ wellbeing. If you’re looking for a long-term role in education, this could be an excellent opportunity. We welcome applicants from support work, care, sports coaching, youth work, and wider education backgrounds. If you don’t have direct experience but feel you could be a strong fit, we still encourage you to apply. For more information or to apply, please contact Chris on the number below or send your CV for consideration. I look forward to hearing from you! #cardiff
