Behaviour Support Assistant Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne Job Type: Full-Time Are you resilient, compassionate, and passionate about helping young people reach their full potential? We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team and provide vital support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4. This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who may have Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and behavioural challenges. You will play a key role in helping students remain engaged, develop positive coping strategies, and achieve success both academically and personally. Who Could Be a Great Fit? We welcome applications from individuals with experience supporting children, young people, or vulnerable adults, including: Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants Youth Workers, Mentors, and Pastoral Support Staff Sports Coaches University Graduates seeking experience in education Support Workers and Social Care Professionals Ex-Military Personnel Anyone with experience supporting individuals with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students Help young people regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively Use calm, consistent, and effective de-escalation strategies Build trusting and supportive relationships with students Promote engagement, attendance, and participation in learning Support classroom teachers in creating a positive learning environment Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, and pastoral colleagues Act as a positive role model, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence What We're Looking For Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities Confidence working with secondary-aged students Resilience, empathy, and a proactive mindset The ability to remain professional and adaptable in challenging situations A commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing and development An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one Why Join Teaching Personnel?
