Behaviour Support Assistant – Secondary – Special Educational Needs – South Birmingham
Thi9s vibrant special school in South Birmingham is seeking a committed Behaviour Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This role involves supporting secondary-aged students with a range of special educational needs, including Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and communication impairments, some of whom may display challenging behaviours.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the pastoral team to provide consistent guidance and positive behaviour support, helping students to develop coping strategies, regulate emotions, and fully engage with learning. This is a rewarding role for someone who is patient, empathetic, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting individual students and small groups with behaviour and learning
Implementing behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
Assisting with the development and delivery of personalised behaviour support plans
Building strong, positive relationships with students to encourage engagement
Supporting students both in lessons and during unstructured times such as break and lunch
Working alongside teachers, support staff, and external agencies to meet students’ needsThe ideal candidate will have:
Experience supporting young people with Autism, MLD, or SEMH needs
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to remain calm and positive under pressure
