Behaviour Support Assistant

Are you calm, compassionate, and confident in supporting children with additional needs? We’re looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist setting in Sunderland.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a real difference to pupils’ lives by providing personalised support, promoting positive behaviour, and helping children to develop the social and emotional tools they need to thrive.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:
Work closely with pupils who have social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)
Support children with tailored strategies to manage behaviour and build resilience
Provide 1:1 and small group support, focusing on emotional regulation and confidence building
Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to put effective strategies into practice
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
A calm, empathetic, and patient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
The ability to stay positive and proactive, even in challenging situations
Training in safeguarding, mental health, or behaviour support (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
