Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistants (BSAs) to work in Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and specialist provisions across Carmarthenshire. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of learners with additional behavioural, emotional and social needs. Whether you're experienced in education, youth work, care, or simply have the right mindset to support vulnerable learners – we want to hear from you! What is a Behaviour Support Assistant? As a BSA, you'll work closely with young people who have been excluded or are unable to attend mainstream school due to behavioural or emotional needs. You’ll support learning in and out of the classroom, often working 1:1 or in small groups. You'll be working in provisions with mixed-age groups (KS1–KS4), supporting pupils who may have: SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) needs ADHD, Autism, or other additional learning needs (ALN) Histories of trauma, exclusion, or difficult home lives Low self-esteem or confidence in learning environments Key Responsibilities: Supporting learners with emotional and behavioural needs in a safe, structured way Building trust and positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families Assisting with both academic and personal development activities Leading or supporting activities outside the classroom – e.g. outdoor learning, life skills, sports, or therapeutic tasks Helping maintain a safe and supportive learning environment Encouraging positive behaviour and using de-escalation strategies when needed Recording behaviour incidents and tracking progress ✅ What We’re Looking For: Experience working with children or young people in a relevant setting (education, care, youth work, mental health, coaching, etc.) Calm, patient and emotionally resilient personality Strong communication and behaviour management skills Willingness to support personal care (if required) Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) Full right to work in the UK and successful completion of all Teaching Personnel vetting checks Desirable: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (some PRUs are not easily accessible by public transport) Team Teach or similar de-escalation/restraint training (can be provided) Qualifications in youth work, counselling, psychology, health & social care, or education Familiarity with trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches ️ Safeguarding is Essential Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
