Behaviour Support & Isolation Room Specialist – Wakefield – Full-Time Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire Hours: Full-Time | 5 Days Per Week | Permanent Pay: Pay to scale Be the Calm in the Chaos. We are seeking a highly capable, confident, and emotionally intelligent Behaviour Support Specialist to manage and lead an Isolation Room provision in a dynamic and supportive secondary school environment in Wakefield. This is not just supervision — it’s structured intervention. If you're experienced in behaviour support, crisis de-escalation, and student mentoring, this is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in a child’s ability to re-engage with learning and succeed. The Role – Key Responsibilities: Supervise and support pupils working in isolation or internal exclusion due to behaviour-related incidents De-escalate challenging situations using trauma-informed and restorative approaches Reinforce school behaviour policies with empathy and consistency Mentor students on decision-making, accountability and reintegration strategies Keep accurate records of attendance, conduct, and incidents within the provision Liaise with senior leaders, behaviour managers, SEND teams, and parents/carers to support individual behaviour plans ✅ You’ll Need: ✔️ Proven experience in a behaviour, pastoral or mentoring role within a school or youth setting ✔️ Strong presence with the ability to lead calmly under pressure ✔️ Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional regulation ✔️ A thorough understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing ✔️ Resilience, consistency and a solutions-focused mindset Desirable (But Not Essential): Team Teach / MAPA / Positive Handling or similar de-escalation training Experience working with pupils with SEMH, trauma, ADHD or ASD Understanding of behaviour policies, exclusions and reintegration practices Experience delivering or supporting behaviour interventions or restorative sessions Background in youth work, PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), or Alternative Provision is a bonus What You’ll Receive: Placement in a Wakefield school with an inclusive, student-first ethos A leadership-backed isolation space with clear systems and support 5-day full-time consistency — ideal for career development or future pastoral roles Ongoing CPD opportunities & behaviour management training Weekly pay & dedicated consultant support throughout your placement ⚡ This is more than crowd control – it’s about connection, redirection and second chances.
