Job Description

Job Title: Behaviour Support Mentor Location: Chorley Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent Start Date: ASAP Hours: Full-time, term-time only Overview: We are seeking a resilient and committed Behaviour Support Mentor to work within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) setting in Chorley. This is a full-time, temporary-to-permanent opportunity, ideal for individuals with a background in youth work, support work, or education who are passionate about making a meaningful impact on young people’s lives. The Role: As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work closely with students who display challenging behaviours and require additional emotional and behavioural support. You will play a key role in helping students regulate their emotions, engage in learning, and develop positive coping strategies. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs Build strong, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation and engagement Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies Support students both inside and outside the classroom De-escalate challenging situations in a calm and professional manner Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or in a similar setting A calm, patient, and resilient approach Strong interpersonal and communication skills The ability to set clear boundaries while maintaining a supportive approach A background in youth work, support work, sports coaching, or education (desirable) A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people What’s on Offer: Opportunity to secure a permanent role following a successful temporary period Supportive and experienced school team Ongoing training and professional development A rewarding role where you can make a real difference This role is subject to enhanced DBS checks and satisfactory references.
