This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading independent systems integrator specialising in Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), working on a diverse portfolio of commercial and mission-critical environments. The role is part of a highly respected project delivery team tasked with managing and engineering intelligent building controls that support energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational resilience.
Based across the Central London region, the BMS Project Engineer will take ownership of small to medium-sized BEMS installations from contract award through to practical completion. Operating in a hybrid capacity — combining remote work, office attendance, and regular site presence — the role provides a high level of autonomy, technical involvement and client-facing responsibility.
Projects typically involve the integration of advanced BMS technologies across complex HVAC and mechanical plant systems, supporting energy performance goals and regulatory compliance. This role is suited to someone with practical experience in the building controls sector who is looking to take a broader role in project lifecycle delivery while remaining technically hands-on.
The organisation offers a collaborative, employee-centred environment where continuous improvement, long-term development, and engineering excellence are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of BEMS projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring all works are delivered on time and within budget.
* Lead the design and engineering of building management systems, developing bespoke control strategies tailored to specific site requirements.
* Conduct site surveys to assist in quotation development and system design scoping.
* Supervise on-site delivery including sub-contractors, installation engineers and BMS commissioning staff.
* Coordinate closely with customers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless communication and project alignment.
* Maintain active control over project finances, procurement, labour planning and scheduling of works.
* Ensure adherence to all health and safety procedures, including site-specific risk assessments and audits.
* Support software programming, graphics generation, and system commissioning where workload allows.
* Carry out BMS engineering duties when necessary, particularly in quieter delivery periods.
* Provide detailed technical input to planning documents and project progress reports.
Skills and Experience Required:
* Strong technical understanding of BEMS systems, with experience in Schneider EcoStruxure and/or Trend control platforms.
* Previous hands-on experience delivering BMS projects, with exposure to both the engineering and project management elements.
* Familiarity with other platforms such as Tridium or ALC is an advantage, though not essential.
* Good working knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical plant integration within building controls.
* Proficient in the design, engineering, and commissioning of control systems for energy management and automation.
* Capable of interpreting technical drawings, wiring schematics and control logic documentation.
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams under time constraints.
* Confident communicator with experience collaborating across departments and liaising directly with clients.
* Comfortable with PC-based engineering tools, commissioning software, and standard office applications.
* Holds a valid UK driving licence and a CSCS skill card (or equivalent), with the flexibility to travel to sites across the region.
What’s in it for you
* A competitive salary package, with strong earning potential through a generous bonus scheme
* Additional standby allowance and regular opportunities for overtime
