Bookkeeper
Location: Brecon, Powys (Site-Based)
Salary: Up to £38,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
The Opportunity
A well-established and growing SME based in Brecon is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join its finance team. This is a fully site-based role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day financial administration of the business while working closely with senior management.
This position would suit a detail-oriented and proactive finance professional who enjoys working within a fast-paced SME environment and can confidently manage bookkeeping activities from transaction processing through to month-end support.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers
Process purchase and sales invoices
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
Perform bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring
Prepare and submit VAT returns
Process payroll and maintain employee records (if applicable)
Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting
Support budgeting and forecasting activities
Liaise with external accountants and auditors
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company procedures
Monitor and improve financial processes where appropriate
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Previous experience in a Bookkeeper or similar finance position
Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial controls
Experience preparing VAT returns and conducting reconciliations
Proficiency with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
AAT qualification or equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential
