British Sign Language Teaching Assistant (TA)
Vetro Recruitment is urgently seeking a highly skilled and empathetic Specialist Supply Teaching Assistant (TA) to provide crucial support to deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in Primary and Secondary schools across the Swansea area.
This specialised role requires fluency in British Sign Language (BSL) to help bridge communication gaps, support curriculum access, and ensure the full inclusion of deaf pupils.
This is a flexible supply role, allowing you to choose your availability for day-to-day and short-term placements.

Communication & Interpretation Support: Provide direct BSL communication support to pupils, ensuring they can access and understand classroom instructions, discussions, and learning materials.

Curriculum Access: Work one-on-one and in small groups to help pupils access the Welsh/English curriculum, translating concepts and focusing on core subjects like Literacy and Numeracy.
*
Inclusion Support: Act as an advocate for deaf pupils, supporting teachers in adapting lessons and classroom environments to be fully inclusive and accessible.
*
General TA Duties: Assist the class teacher with classroom management, preparation of accessible learning resources, and monitoring and reporting on pupil progress and well-being.

Diverse Settings: Adapt quickly to varied school environments, age ranges (3-18), and departmental needs across the Swansea area.
Essential Requirements

BSL Fluency: Level 2 BSL qualification or higher is mandatory (or demonstrably near-native fluency).
*
Experience: Proven experience working with children or young people in an educational or similar setting, preferably supporting those with sensory impairments (HI/Deaf).
*
Empathy: A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils, focusing on fostering independence and confidence.
*
Compliance: A current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one with Vetro's assistance).

Registration: Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willingness to register.
